Framing the landscape
This project is an exercise in pure simplicity. Conceived as a crisp, clad box, the extension strips back unnecessary detail to create a space defined by proportion, light, and framed views.
At its core is a large picture window fitted with discreet solar shades, designed to capture the shifting quality of light throughout the day while ensuring comfort and control. Parapet walls emphasise the clean geometry of the form, giving the extension a quiet presence that feels both elegant and timeless.
Inside, the new front room centres on a wood burner, creating a warm, intimate space that contrasts with the openness of the glazing. The room is arranged to make the view its central focus—framing the garden and landscape beyond like a living artwork. From morning through evening, the space shifts with the light, offering a constantly changing backdrop to everyday life.
This extension demonstrates how restraint can deliver impact. Through careful control of form, materiality, and detail, the design achieves clarity and elegance while enhancing the way the home is lived in. It is a simple box in principle, but one that transforms the property through atmosphere, light, and outlook.
